Belfast Pubs: "The Morningstar Pub" Belfast Pubs Tip by oneonta_ni

Belfast Pubs, Belfast: 2 reviews and 1 photos

This is a very old pub located in a listed building down a narrow entryway. The decor is traditional pub style with cosy booths and tables. The staff are friendly and efficient - many of them are Australian because the owner is as well. This also means the menu is extremely varied. It is not often you can find crocodile or kangaroo on a Belfast pub menu!

We went around 6pm on a Friday night - not a good time for pub food since most pubs stop serving then. However, the Morningstar was open and there were few people in. They have a non-smoking section that is well separated from the smoking section.

I had roast wild boar that was meant to be on a bed of Asian vegetables and apart from that fact that they left out the Asian vegetables, it was quite nice. I had a side dish of steamed vegetables which were very nicely cooked.

GF had wild boar sausage on a bed of apple champ which was very nice and for a side he had garlic sauté potatoes.

For dessert, I had a very sweet pavlova - it would have been nicer without the chocolate and strawberry syrup drizzled over it and GF had an apple crumble which he said was quite good.

His pint of Guinness was one of the best I have tasted so if it is just a drink you are after, you can go to the bar downstairs.
