"Sacre Coeur" Basilique du Sacre Coeur de Monmartre Tip by mrclay2000

  Sacre Coeur above Montmartre

Built in some sense as a expiation for the Paris Commune of 1871, the Byzantine-style Sacre Coeur rose on the prominent hilltop of Montmartre early in the last century. Visible from countless points in the city and dominating the northern realm of Paris, the church has a unique outer architecture and bronzed statues, but its interior is dark, almost sullen, but brightened by wonderful medieval-looking stained glass.
