"BARGAINING - STATE SHOPS -" China Shopping Tip by jordijoan

China Shopping: 86 reviews and 89 photos

If you go with a group, the guides are forced (YES, FORCED!) to bring tourist to a certain number of state owned shops: pearls, jade, silk, artcraft .. are just some of the products sold in these shops.

The quality of products here is guaranteed, so this means you don't have to worry about it. Silk is of great quality and the same goes for jade or pearls.... but also the prices are quite expensive compared to the prices in the street markets ( but of course quality isn't usually the same).

These shops have fixed prices and each product is labelled with its price. Well, most of people will pay this price.... but of course some hard bargaining is possible! Don't expect to cut price down to a 25 or 50% of the original price but you can get the product for the 75% of the original price or so and I think is always good to cut the money we give to governments!

What to buy: I specially recommend to buy silk products in the state shops, specially in the so called Silk Museum in Beijing ( next to workers Stadium). The labeled price of products is excellent compared to prices in Europe, for an example my wife got a pijama for about 50-60 euros which would cost up to 300 euros in Spain. All the products are made in top quality silk, so have it in mind when you check the prices.
