The Madison Resort Inn: "Maine Riverside lodging" Maine Hotel Tip by hobocamp2

Driving through New England on a "leaf-peeping" excursion in late Sept., early Oct., we spent each night at a different site, never reserving ahead but looking for a "home for the night" as the afternoon grew late-- four or five pm.
We came upon Madison Inn alongside the wide river and nearly empty on a weknight at this time of year. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and well appointed.
There is a well-stocked exercise room as well as an outdoor pool .
There is also an attractive dining room, fireplace alight, walls decorated with trophy heads from Africa. Food was good and reasonable.
Continental breakfast in anaother dining area was included.

Unique Qualities: The Madison is well located for summer fun; hiking in Grafton State Park , which is bisected by the Appalachian Trail; and river activities right at the site.
We met a Canadian couple who was also overnighting there. They make it a regular stop on their annual trip to Cape Breton Island.
