"Low cost airline heaven" Stansted Transportation Tip by catchpm

Stansted Transportation: 21 reviews and 39 photos

Stansted is about 30 miles north of the centre of London, and well served by roads and public transportation. The M11 motorway is joinable at Stansted and goes directly into London or to the M25 (motorway car park!!) to circle London. Alternatively, the midlands and north are also easily accessible. There is a regular and often non-stop service to Stansted by rail from London (Liverpool Street) on the Stansted Express, or alternatively a number of bus services run (especially between the 3 major London airports, which are good if you have a connecting flight)

Stansted is the main base for Ryanair who are about the lowest cost airline in the UK, and also highly served by Easyjet since their takeover of Go. Ryanair and Easyjet both serve a number of European and domestic destinations from Stansted. With the easy transportation links, it's well worth considering Stansted as a departure point as opposed to the saturated Heathrow or Gatwick.

A lot of people have the misconception that Stansted is well away from London, and this really isn't the case. The journey is relatively painless up the M11 The only real London airport is London City. Heathrow is in Middlesex and Gatwick is in West Sussex. Although both are slightly closer to London than Stansted, it really isn't that far away
