  Ornate pillars with ceremonial stalactites
by dlytle

The gallery surrounding the Courtyard of the Lions really is spectacular of itself. The forest of gilded pillars, with a little imagination, does resemble a forest of palms surrounding an oasis. In this picture you can again see the grace with which this area is imbued. Also note what appear to be representations of stalactites hanging from the arches between the pillars. I explained the significance of stalactites in the tip titled ?A beautiful carved & painted grotto in the Mexuar?.

However, I thought that this picture really makes them apparent.

And its such a beautiful photo of this serene and surreal architecture, don?t you agree??
