  Beirut, Place des Martyrs
by sachara

At the end of the war the Martyrs Statue was the only recognisable feature of the pre-war days at the Martyrs Square downtown Beirut, once the bustling place of Beirut.
Nowadays a lot of rebuilding activities in downtown Beirut are done, but also still going on.
In west Beirut the Hamra street became the main shopping street of Beirut. Here and in the area around you can find a lot of varied shops, cafes and restaurants.
It's nice to walk along the Corniche and to have a look at the Pigeon Rocks at the western end. Here are also nice cafes and restaurants with terraces.

For more information see my Beirut page.
