The trolley museum is a short drive north of Kennebunkport. It was founded in 1939 to preserve a disappearing way of life. There are some interesting cars resident, and there is actually a few that operate on a short train track, where you get a ride for your $7.50.

One tour book (Frommer's Portable Maine Coast) described it as essentially a scrap yard, which is true. The book also says that you won't realize how much you've learned until after you leave. I do not agree with that statement. Really, you can get a look at pretty much everything else they have at this museum from the parking lot. Save your money, take a couple of quick photos and then head back to Kennebunkport.

Unique Suggestions: You can get a look at the operating trains and trolleys from the parking lot for free. The only thing you'll miss by not actually going into the museum is the short circular train ride. Save your money and spend it on a lobster roll in Kennebunkport.

Fun Alternatives: Just drive into the parking lot and gift shop area. You'll get a chance to see a few of the antique trolleys, and you'll bag yourself a pre-requisitie photo.
