  Borovitskiy Gate & Tower

Next to the State Armory, pictured here, is the Borovitskiy Gate & Tower, with the Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer peeking over in the background. This is the second of the two towers that are currently used as entrances to the Kremlin, but I think this one is primarily for people who already possess tickets to the State Armory. The name Borovitskiy comes from the bor, or pine trees, that once covered the hill where the Kremlin was founded.

Before the Revolution, the two-headed eagles, symbol of the Russian monarchy, topped the four main Kremlin Towers, but they were quickly replaced with stars engraved with the hammer & sickle.
