Ghent is a very safe city. There are a lot of students wandering around at night and thanks to the nice pubs, Ghent is never really abandoned during the late hours.
However, some areas you might avoid during nighttime are the Citadelpark and also "Het Glazen Straatje", the prostitute area on the Brabantdam.
