  Taynal Mosque
by sachara

Not far from the Citadel we visited the Taynal mosque as one of the most outstanding examples of Islamic architecture and one of the most interesting monuments in town.
The mosque was recently restored.
The building has the typical 14th century Arab architecture. The mosque was built in 1336 by emir Sayf ed-Dine, the governor of Tripoli, on the remains of an old church of the Carmelites. The inner portal has still a partially preserved Carmelite nave.
Visit of the mosque is nowadays allowed for non-muslims, if you are decently dressed.
Women need a (black) scarf, but they can provide it at the mosque entrance.

Directions: In Abu Samra, less than one KM south west of the Citadel
