Thursday, October 6 - Lake Windermere - Edinbugh,Scotland

Took a morning steamer ride on Lake Windermere, a beautiful lake with stately historic houses on the banks with a scattering of sheep. The clouds were dark and swelled with rain, but only a few drops fell on us. It was another blusterly day - we were warm in our Irish sweaters.

Took a cab up-the-hill to the train station, and headed for Edinburgh. I was fortunate to sit awhile with a tiny 25-year old lass with a curly mass of red haired who told me the story of her life. She was going to Edinburgh to say goodbye to her boyfriend. She was heading for Malaysia by herself and after a month there she was continuing on to New Zealand and Australia to find work and she didn't plan to return to Scotland. She had sold all her belongings and was leaving her depressing job as a social worker to find something more exciting. Her last trip had been to Madagascar (now who would want to go to Madagascar?) This girl would go anywhere, she was gutsy. Oh to be young again to be able to just go when the urge came, like she was doing.
