Just before dark we walked to Harrods, I caught my tennis shoe in a crack in the sidewalk and took a header right in front of the store - more embarrassed than hurt. Saw all the snooty clerks and overpriced merchandise, Faye fell in love with a $99 pair of red leather gloves, but didn't buy them.

Harrods' motto, "Omnia Omnibus Ubique," loosely translates into "You want it, we got it." The posh department store is one of London's biggest tourist attractions, with seven floors and some 300 departments, including the famous Food Hall, about 20 restaurants and bars, a beauty salon, and a bank. On an average day, 35,000 shoppers browse the store. The crowd can swell to over 300,000 during sales. It originally opened as a grocery store in 1849 and become another icon of London. It is now owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed, father of Dodi, the ill-fated companion of the late Princess Diana. This store employs over 4,000 people. The food department is overwhelming. If you're not hungry when you get there, you will be when you see all the wonderful gourmet foods - and they'll ship them home for you.

Harrods is on the Red Bus circuit, just ask the driver where to get off the bus closest to Harrods. Worked for us.
