I had no idea how huge Central Park really is. At 843 acres, you could easily spend an entire day walking, cycling or rowing in the park. It is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In 1853, Central Park was the first landscaped public park in the United States. It was situated in an area of uneven terrain of swamps and rocky outcroppings. Wealthy New Yorkers at the time wanted a place for carriage rides that rivalled the green spaces of London and Paris. 1600 poor residents that lived in shanties on the property were displaced to make room for the park.

Today, you too can enjoy a romantic carriage ride through the park or a free conservancy led walking tour. See the website for details.
