Shubinak, Chitral: 1 reviews and 0 photos

This is only one out of othershops in the main bazaar who sell local emboidery items from a coarse cloth called " patti" which has become a trade mark for Chitral.
This particular shop is recommended because it stocks up most of the items and maintains a reasonable standard of workmanship

What to buy: Any item made from the local patti. The woolen cap worn by Chitrali men is made of this cloth. On her visit to Chitral in 1995 when Princess Diana wore this Chitrali cap it became a hit in the fashion world. In Chitral people had a hard time explaining that the cap being demanded was a mans cap and not a womens cap.
The patti is made on primitive spindles and hand looms which can still be seen in local homes in their high villages. When the Afghan refugees were in Chitral they brought many small rugs and carpets which can still be seen in the shops

What to pay: A Chitrali cap called a Pakol should not cost more than USD 5.00
