Swayambhu stupa

No matter how 'templed-out' you may be feeling, try to make time for this one. Dating from the 5th century it has wonderful views over the city and an ambience unrivalled. Often referred to as the 'Monkey Temple', the resident monkeys are hardly a feature by compare. A real must.
Directions: 2km west of Thamel.
