Punta Arenas like Christ church New Zealand is the staging point for much of the activity in Antarctica. The office of the Chilean Antarctica support logistics and research is based here. A staff of around twenty administrators, camp organizers, food-, weather- and navigation people and hired pilots arrive around October to the ANI headquarters located in an old wooden townhouse in Punta Arenas. Bursting with activity the staff commences to prepare for the Antarctic summer season. ANI caters to South Pole trekkers, Mount Vinson climbers, wildlife watchers and polar scientists.
