  overview of area Vic Falls
by sachara

From the helicopter we had a great overview of the area of the Victoria Falls.
Upstream is a very tranquil area with a lot of tiny islands scattered in the wide river. A nice area for boatrides. From this side David Livingstone approached the falls in 1855 in a dugout canoe, not prepared of what he should witness, one of the greatest natural wonders of this earth.
The water thunders down in the narrow 108 M deep Batoka Gorge over a width of 1.700 M. From the southside upstream you don't see anything, only ''the smoke''
From the north (see picture) you have a spectacular view at all the different falls.
And further north you see a zig-zag landscape of narrow steep gorges.

Directions: 878 KM west of Harara by road and 439 KM west of Bulawaya at the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia.
