  Atessa, a distant view
by call_me_rhia

Atessa is a panoramic old town in Abruzzo. it's located on top of two hills, so visiting it it's an up and down affair.. a pleasant one. The name Atessa, according to a legend, comes from two villages: Ate and Tixe, that used to be separated by a canyon. In this canyon, of course, lived a terrible dragon - but one day Saint leucio arrived and slyed the dragon: the two villages were magically united and Saint Leucio was then given a church. This church is a must see, as well as the one dedicated to Daint DOmenico. Another sight is the town's arch and Casa de Marco, for its old windows.

Address: Atessa
Directions: In South Eastern Abruzzo. By car: take the motorway A14 and exit at Val di Sangro
