the museum is named after Pieter Teyler van der Hulst (1702-1778) he was a wealthy silk manufacturer.
He had a great interest in art and science. He create on both of this issues a large collection, from the spirit that he can enrich mankind.
In his wil he left all his money to a found that improve art and science.
The foundation decide to build a museum to show the collection from Pieter Teyler.
The Teyler museum is the oldest in the Netherlands.
