of course Paris is not to be missed on a trip through Europe,
the Sacre-Coeur - I think this is my favourite church in Paris really - it is so beautiful - white and majestic on the top of Montmartre hill. Building of the church started in 1876 and it was consecrated in 1919.
The designing architects used a curious mixture of Romanesque and Byzantine. There are four small domes and a larger central dome. There is a square bell tower which is 84 metres high and contains the 'Savoyarde' which is one of the largest bells in the world - it weighs 19 tons. On each side of the front of the church there are three arches and above them two equestrian statues of King Louis the blessed and Joan of Arc.
the Eiffel Tower and it is the symbol of Paris. It was erected in 1889 for the World Fair and it was designed by Gustave Eiffel. It is 320 metres high, a light interlaced structure made of 15,000 pieces of metal welded together. It weighs 7,000 tons and rests onfour huge cement blocks. The tower has three floors. The first one is at 57 metres, the second is at 115 metres and the third is at 274 metres. There are restaurants and bars on the first two floors. The views are wonderful from the tower.
