PROFONDO ROSSO: "The Gruesome Twosome and their shop" Rome Shopping Tip by challenger

The Profondo Rosso shop is owned by Dario ("Suspiria") Argento and Luigi ("Star Crash") Cozzi, two Italian directors of wonderfully lurid - and often ludicrous - Eurotrash movies. In actual fact, the shop is named after one of Argento's most successful movies. Argento nowadays is still busy filming, so the actual running of the shop is left to Cozzi who can often be found in it himself. Heis the friendliest guy you're ever going to meet and still a huge Sci-Fi/Horror Fan himself.

The store is inspired by the English "Forbidden Planet" chain and sells a good bunch of Italian horror and thriller movies, books and magazines, T-Shirts and other collectibles. Most of these are in Italian - and from their own Profondo Rosso publishing house -, but there are also some items in English.

For a meagre E3.00 you can also visit Dario Argento's Museum of Horrors in the atmospheric underground vaults. In it you will find various original props from their own movies and from those of other Italian directors.

If you're into that kind of stuff, you are bound to get a great kick out of it!
