  The Bronze Horseman
by Leipzig

This monument, a tribute by Catherine the Great, is dedicated to the founder of St. Petersburg, Peter The Great. It stands on Senatskaia Square, right next to the Neva River near St Isaac's Cathedral. According to a legend, enemy forces will never take St. Petersburg while the statue stands in the city. And indeed, St. peterburg was not occupied during the Second World War.
