Its possible to horseback ride around Mongolia as much or as little as you wish. Many Tours offer horseback trips as part of the excursion to the hoodorr(countryside, I think my mongolian is slipping).

Some people wish to solo it around on their own with a horse, which is also possible. However a few tips, In October the weather drops dramtically to freezing, make sure you and your ride are prepared. To buy a horse is about 100 dollars and up. You will prolly have to have a mongolian bargian for you, as the seller will not want to part with their strongest, tamest horses.

If you get a horse, please make stops whenever you can to a local ger you encounter, they will be very interested in a horse-riding foreigner. Its a good idea to bring some small gifts as well, cheap pocket knives, post cards, lighters, tea, or other practical gifts.
