Vatican Museums - Sistine Chapel, Rome: 57 reviews and 118 photos

Having been quite unimpressed by Michelangelos ?Pieta? at St. Peters, I didn?t have high hopes of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museums. And when I first went in, I was under-whelmed ? people everywhere and pretty run-of ?the- mill paintings on the walls. But then I looked up to the famous ceiling, and I kept looking . The longer I looked, the more the paintings came alive, some of them seemed to almost leap off the ceilings. Then I noticed the different scenes and themes and had to examine each one .. my head nearly fell off my craned neck! And due to the recent restoration, the colours are gorgeous and clear.

One thing I found amusing was that there was the usual noise in there of hundreds of tourists and roughly every 3-4 minutes or so, the security guard would go (very loudly) ?Shhhhhhh?, whereupon everyone would subdue their voices a little before the noise built up again.
