Grants: "Looking for a cheap sleep?" New Mexico Hotel Tip by jayhawk2000

Get yourself to Grants, about 25 miles from the Arizona border on I-40. Ideal for truckers, drug runners, the budget conscious traveller and other desperadoes.

Unique Qualities: This town is the capital of the no-tell motel, the type of place where the mattresses go saggy from corpses that aren't found for three weeks.

BUT we're talking less than 20 bucks a night for something that resembles a room. Well, it has WALLS, okay? Maybe not a roof, but definitely walls! FOUR walls, even, if you pay top dollar.

If you're lucky you'll be blessed with a flicker of electricity, a drip of water conveniently trickling from the ceiling and an antique sleeping apparatus that has had the 'do not remove under penalty of law' mattress tag gleefully ripped off by bed bandits.

If you survive the night then El Malpais National Monument is on your doorstep.

Price Comparison: least expensive
Directions: There's plenty to choose from, merely pull off the Interstate and pick your poision
Price: less than US$20
Theme: Motel
