Christmas is a great time to be in Cuzco. Christmas Eve is the Feast day of St. Miguel the patron saint of Cuzco. The whole area turns out to buy incense, trees, ornaments and food for the holidays. The Plaza de Armas is awash with people.
Christmas Eve there is a midnight mass in Spanish and Cechua and the next day families bring the Christ child from their home creches to be blessed. Parading groups of people in masks troop the streets playing instruments and singing.
