"Climbing High" Grasmere Things to Do Tip by steventilly

Grasmere Things to Do: 25 reviews and 37 photos

  Grasmere From Loughrigg
by steventilly

It's nice to sit by Grasmere, at the bottom of Loughrigg and just relax. But I'm not keen on just sitting when I know there's a great view waiting to be discovered.
If you climb the hill directly behind you (Loughrigg) you will see the view of the lake opening up as you get higher and higher.
It's a strenuous little climb, and there's no real track that goes straight up, so you just have to improvise a bit. A short way up is a left-to-right track called Loughrigg Terrace, which has some benches on it, so you can rest if you're already feeling the strain. The views are nice from there, but they're even better further up.
This pic is taken from some way higher up than Loughrigg Terrace. The village is at the far end of the lake, and at this end, below us and out of sight, is the little beach from the earlier tips.
