The Old Town is the best place to start Warsaw sightseeing.

Monumental outline of Royal Castle and Column of King Zygmunt III Waza are first that call tourists' attention.

Little by little expanded castle was primary seat of princes, than kings, the place of seym proceedings and since 1926 - president's seat. Constitution of 3th of May 1791 was resolved here. Destroyed during the Second World War (blasted in 1944), now is completely reconstructed and in it's interiors you can admire original paintings, carvings and crafts that come from Stanislaw August days.

Erected in 1643-1644 by initiative of king Wladyslaw IV (son of king Zygmunt III Waza) column is most popular (next to Mermaid) monument in Warsaw. It's also most favorite place to meet for people who live in Warsaw and visitors. Statue on the top of this monument has 2,75m height. King's figure presented on this monument keep in one hand the sword and the cross in the second.
The legend says that in the moment when the sword (kept by the king) will touch the base of the statue the end of the world will happen. It's hopefully quite high so far :)
