"Hofburg - Burgtor" Hofburg Palace Complex Tip by yooperprof
Hofburg Palace Complex, Vienna: 217 reviews and 468 photos
Literally, the gate to the castle, the Burgtor is the last surviving gate of the grand wall which encompassed inner Vienna until its deconstruction in the 1850s. It originally commemorated the Allied victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Leipzig of 1813; later it was used by Austria's fascists as a World War I memorial. Now the seems mostly forgotten amidst the traffic which roars past it.
