Playa Avellana is one of my favorite beaches in Costa Rica. It's far enough from any city to be always calm. There is few people and many things to do. Waves are not the best, for surfers (best Playa Negra, near there) but if you like diving there is a small reef were you can snorkle directly from the beach. On the north side of the beach there are also mangroves. It's perfect for a short walk

And, if you don't want to do anything special, just lie on the sand, or better on the pillows the owner of the chill-out bar leaves strategically under the palms
