  Back to back houses
by Galahad

Work has now has now been completed on the restoration of a set of back-to-back houses right in the centre of Birmingham next door to the Hippodrome by the National Trust. 8 houses have been restored. They were built in the 19th century and the last remaining of their type (although there are some in the Black Country Museum in Dudley, but these have been moved from their original site and rebuilt in the museum). Three of them are being redeveloped as holiday homes. Three workers' dwellings have been furnished in keeping with three different historical periods. There is an education centre and an old-fashioned sweetshop. The houses opened in July 2004 and cost almost 2m. The are listed as a Grade 2 historial monument. The photo comes from the Birmingham City Museum and I will replace the it with one of my own as soon as possible.

Address: Corner of Hurst Street and Inge Street
Directions: Just to the south of the Inner Ring Road not far from New Street Station.
