"Visit Place des Vosges" Top 5 Page for this destination Place des Vosges Tip by shrimp56

Place des Vosges, Paris: 71 reviews and 154 photos

What you will see is a square surrounded by carefully trimmed trees, in turn surrounded by brick buildings with an arcade running all the way around the square. There are shops, restaurants, hotels -- and then in the square itself there are benches fountains, sun and shade.
Place des Vosges is in the Marais district [4e], which is full of history. Built in the 17th century and originally called Place Royale, it was renamed Place des Vosges after the French revolution because the Vosges region were the first to pay their taxes to the new government.
See my "Ma Bourgogne" restaurant tip for a picture of one of the arcades.
