You can climb up the Arc de Triomphe for a fantastic view of Paris for miles around - as far as La Défence, the Eiffel Tower, Bois de Boulogne and Sacre Coeur for only ?4.50 (student rate! hahaha!!)

Underneath the Arc is the marked-off tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where a flame is lit.

Of course it is much too dangerous to cross the road from the Champs Elysée to the Arc....after all the Etoile is the largest trafiic roundabout in France! There is, however, an underground passage from the Champs to the Arc. It's lit well, so you should feel safe.
