"GUM Department Store" Red Square - G.U.M. - Gosudarstevemy Universahy Magazin Tip by tini58de

by tini58de

The GUM (Glavny Universalny Magazin) with its typical Neo-Russian facade takes up almost the entire eastern side of the Red Square. it was built between 1890 and 1893 and combines elements of Russian medieval architecture and an elegant steel framework and glass roof similar to the train stations of Paris and London from that period.

GUM houses many elegant shops, designer boutiques, souvenir stands and foreign stores on those three levels. For me it was lovely to just stroll around, but all these shops are so expensive, so that I almost considered it a tourist trap. Still it is an experience to see it!
