This isn't really a warning, just a FYI... I love animals...maybe more than people. My view is Biased and I know that. I just want to give people like me, who might have reservations about the way the animals are treated, a heads up. Before I went to Thailand, I tried to find information on how the Elephants are treated and didn't get very far... I read a small bit on them in one of our tour books and thought if I didn't like what I saw once I got to the Elephant farm, that I would just not get on. Well I got there, the people were treating the Elephants very well and I decided to get on and go for a ride. the Elephant was treated very well throughout the whole ride, the guy that sat on her head didn't use his poker once the whole time... I felt really good about it and was happy I did it.
When we got home from Thailand, I was watching a special on the Discovery channel about the Thai Elephants and was horrified to find out how these animals are trained (or shall I say "Tortured"?) to do the job that they do. It is awful. they are stabbed in the ears (their ears are the most sensitive part of their bodies) and beaten among many other forms of torture. If you are having reservations like I did, I really don't suggest taking an elephant ride. I found a website that has some footage of what these poor animals go through. its listed below
