Margie's Candies: "Old Fashioned Ice Cream Sundaes" Margie's Candies Tip by TRimer
Margie's Candies, Chicago: 3 reviews and 3 photos
Margie's is a Chicago landmark that has served the Bucktown community for eighty years. The decor gives the impression that not a whole lot has changed in that time. It's still a cozy (cramped?) little shop with dolls, knickknacks, old newspaper clippings, brown vinyl booths and ancient tableside jukeboxes holding tunes slightly more modern than they have a right to be (Captain and Tennille?), and other assorted mementos that have inhabited the shop for decades.
Be prepared to wait a long time for a seat. Open most nights until midnight, 1am on weekends.
Not a great place for children (sugar and long waits), large groups (will make the wait even longer) and those on a diet :)
Favorite Dish: Margie's Candies is best known for its handmade candies and ice cream. The ice cream dishes come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, flavors, and price ranges, usually ranging around $4 to $6. The desserts were truly huge! We ordered the Atomic Sundae - a comfortable two or three scoops (flavors of your choice) served in a white plastic clamshell, garnished with bright yellow vanilla wafers. They also have sandwiches - but people really go there for the sundaes.
