"The Chellah in Rabat" Morocco Things to Do Tip by Paul2001

The Chellah is probably my favourite of all the sites that I visited in Morocco. It is part archeological ruin, part castle and part garden. The site began as a Roman town back around the 2nd century A.D. It was eventually taken over by the Moors who built a mosque and garden on the grounds. They also fortified the location. For some reason I am not aware of, they abandon the location in the 12th century and everything fell to ruin. Today the place is fascinating to walk around in both for the Roman ruins and the lovely garden.
Directions: On the Western edge of the new town of Rabat.
