various: "Countryside auctions" Top 5 Page for this destination Sweden Shopping Tip by Sjalen

All around the country, summertime means auction in small, forgotten villages. I doubt you will end up in "Antiques Roadshow" with your find but if you want to find something unusual or kitsch whilst doing something VERY Swedish, this is the thing to experience. You will find notes on auctions in local papers and on village centre notice boards. Usually, it is in a farm somewhere where the farmer has died, or in special "auction houses" in villages. Go there well in advance to see what you like.

What to buy: Household items and art that you find exotic and/or Swedish.

What to pay: Anything from a fiver to thousands

Directions: Auction houses can be found in little Tolg outside Växjö and the town of Västervik as far as Småland goes. I am not as good at other provinces. However, farm auctions are often funnier people watching opportunities.
