Camels have been working the land in Lanzarote since 1402. Now they work for tourists.

The camel ride around Fire Mountain,(Timanfaya) lasts 20 minutes. Everyone sits two to a camel either side of the 'hump' in a wooden seat. Most camel trains consist of 5 or 6 camels to a trainer.

Camels are muzzled so they cant bite, (dont get too close cos their breath can stun at 10 paces).

In august, there is a camel race at the Uga village fiesta. The animals mostly ignore the starters pistol, some sit down in the sun or run in all directions, and some run at the crowd!

The winner is the rider who clings to the camel hump for the longest.

Address: near Yaiza
Directions: turn first right at Yaiza roundabout, follow signs for Timanfaya
