Off the Bryn Mawr Red Line 'El' stop is the Edgewater Historical DIstrict. I used to live in this neighborhood. Many of the buildings were built in the 1920s when the area was a hot spot for Chicago vacationers. They are now newly remodeled and gorgeous. I suggest checking the renovated, old-time ice cream parlor in the bottom of the giant pink building. It's very neat!
The beach there is usually not crowded, so take a nice walk, sunbathe, read a book, and enjoy the view! You can see downtown Chicago and Navy Pier from the beach.
