Unfortunately the closest I got to Duart Castle was this view from the ferry. I had planned on visiting it as well as Toronsay Castle nearby but due to the bus schedules I found myself stuck in Tobermory all afternoon. Maybe some other time!

The castle is 13th Century and was built for the MacLeans family to protect them, with its 10ft thick curtain wall, from the Campbells. It was the seat of the MacLean chiefs for centuries until it was confiscated in the 1700s during the Jacobite uprising. It was restored in 1912 and is now back in the MacLean family.

The castle overlooks Loch Linnhe and the Sound of Mull. Open May to October

Hopefully one day I WILL get to visit it!
