  hippo's in one clew
by sachara

On our way out of the Serengeti Park, westbound into the direction of the Ndabaka Gate we found 200 hippo's in the river.

It was a shocking scene. The hippo's behaved very panic-stricken. They formed one large clew, laying over each other. For a short time they laid still an than suddenly the hippo's at the outside jumped in the clew, sneezing and biting. It looked like every hippo tried at such moments to reach the middle of the clew.

What was the reason: the river dried up and the hippo's gathered in this last wet part of the river. If there would not come rains within a very short time they will die.

Directions: Western part of Serengeti NP
