The Olduvai Gorge is the place where in 1959 the Leakys found the skull of one of the ancestors of the homo sapiens, dating back 1.8 millions year.

In 1979 Mary Leaky discovered a human footprint, dating back 3,5 millions year. The footprints prove that the humans walked allready upright much longer than was supposed.

At the edge of the Olduvai Gorge is a small and nice museum with explanations. The museum closes at 3PM.

Directions: A few KM north of the road from the Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti National Park
