United Kingdom Off The Beaten Path: 420 reviews and 440 photos

Today it is the official residence of the Bishop of Durham, but once it was the main country residence of the Prince Bihops and one of their hunting areas. Today the chapel and staterooms are open to the public. The chapel is actually one of the largest private chapels in europe. You can also get into the deer park with the 18th century Deer House. The castle is at the easterm end of the market place in Bishop Auckland. It is a nice walk through the Deer Park.
The castle is closed on fridays but open the other days of the week.
