This is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - until 2004 the only orchestra with no female musicians in it!
The building was designed by Theophil Hansen and built 1867-1869. It is a mixture of styles with terracotta statues, capitals and balustrades. It is perhaps most well known for its annual New Years Day Concert. We went there for an evening concert (the tickets are sold on the streets mostly by students dressed as Mozart!) - it was mainly tourist there but it is a great way to see the wonderful Golden Hall. The Musikverein is only open for concerts.

Address: Bosendorferstrasse 12
Directions: get the U-bahn to Karlsplatz and then it is a short walk.
