"The Old Palace - Imperial Palace" Hofburg Palace Complex Tip by Audrey118

Hofburg Palace Complex, Vienna: 217 reviews and 468 photos

There are two palaces = the old and the new.

The old Imperial Palace was built around the 16th century and years and years later more extension - so the oiginal medieval castle has changed its architecture...more extensions were added such as the Leopold Wing, the Spanish Riding School etc in the following centuries.

Here shows the St Michael's wing which was added in 19th Century.

The new palace was built in 20th Century and that also marks the end of the Hapsburg reign. (must be bad feng shui!)

If you get inside the gates...you will be in Heldenplatz,
