Vallindras: "Naxos Kitron" Naxos Island Shopping Tip by snorril

Vallindras is a distillery in the town of Halki. It was established in 1896 and is still run by the same family. We decided to visit the distillery and got a free guided tour with a lovely member of the family.

What to buy: Kitron is a Naxos speciality, made from the leaves of the Kitron tree (which also produces a fruit, the kitron, which they use for marmelade). There are three kinds of Kitron and they have different colours. They are yellow, green and white/clear.

Kitron is hard to find outside Naxos so it makes an excellent souvenir or gift.
