The Horse Guards building was built in 1755 and was originally the main entrance to Buckingham Palace and royal processions. The building is on the site of Henry VIII's tournament ground or 'tiltyard'. The Household Cavalry mounts the guard here for the changing of the guard. Two mounted troopers of the Household Cavalry stand guard over the entrance to the Horse Guards.
