For any science geeks out there (like me), Chattanooga has one small destination that most people living here don't even know about. This is the Electric Vehicle Information Center (EVIC). Almost like a tiny museum, the EVIC houses displays with more information about the history and future potential of electric/battery powered motors, what they are used in, and how they work, than maybe anywhere else in the world. Inside you can take a simulated ride on a frame ev car that shows a short video as you ride while allowing you to see all the working parts of an electric vehicle (ev). The EVIC also houses one of the world's first evs, which was purchased by TVA in 1979 to begin its testing facility. The research done by TVA helped lead to the formation of AVS, now the world's leading manufacturer of electric and hybrid buses and trucks, located here in Chattanooga. You may notice that they make the electric, pollution free buses used by CARTA, who gives free transportation service downtown. Anyone at all concerned with the environment, pollution, fossil fuel usage, etc. will probably appreciate the info here, as well as what Chattanooga is doing to help bring this technology to the rest of the world. The EVIC is open free to the public. You can spend as little or as much time there as you want, and they even have a special section for children.
